Thanks to an expanding demographic of homeowners with significant disposable income, Romania’s tile market is
showing healthy growth.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Romania’s ceramic tile consumption reached a value of 300 million Euros in 2025 – 10% higher than the previous year, while the nation’s major DIY retail chains account for approximately 55% of the tile market. Imported tiles make up 85% of the market, which has a negative impact on distribution times, with products from Asia and the Middle East often taking weeks or even months to arrive.
Seizing an opportunity for growth, a leading manufacturer in neighbouring Bulgaria has established a subsidiary in Romania. Izida Ceramica, based in the small town of Milin Pilin, a short drive east of Sofia, was founded way back in 1894, but has recently invested around 30 million Euros on an exhaustive modernization programme. Following this upgrade, the company now boasts a 6.5 million square metre production capacity. Around 50% of their output is exported to countries in the region, including Greece, Romania and Serbia. With the introduction of the new Romanian subsidiary, Izida Ceramica aims to become one of the top companies dominating Romania’s tile market.
