UK tile manufacturer Alusid, known for its ceramic tile manufacturing using recycled materials and low carbon emission processes, is expanding distribution into
a number of European markets.
Alusid is targeting markets where customer expectation and government legislation place high emphasis on sustainability, environmental protection and recycling, notably Scandinavia and the Netherlands.
Alusid’s ‘Mas’ tiles are produced from 98.5% recycled materials. Mas, a Spanish word meaning ‘more’, here signifies “more from less”. Alusid claims that its ceramic manufacturing process has a carbon footprint almost half the size of most of its competitors, at 5.95kg of CO2 per m/sq. The tile market is increasingly dominated by consumer concern for sustainability and environmental protection in what is an energy-intensive process, with EU and national laws aimed at sustainability and cleaner production methods becoming ever more stringent.
A recent distribution agreement with the Netherlands will see Alusid’s Mas tiles stocked locally. Alusid has entered partnerships with FRONT Materials BV and Tegelgroeop Nederlands in a bid to develop and tailor its products to the European market. A new partnership with Kakelspecialisten, one of Sweden’s largest tile distributors, will likely see a substantial increase in Alusid’s Scandinavian market.
